Exposition “Une affaire de familles”

“A family affair” exhibition, photographic archives and Carnac menhirs.

“Do you have a photo that features you or someone in your family in the Carnac Alignments? Can you date this photo? We’re interested! ". Initially designed to maintain a link with the subscribers of the Carnac Alignements Facebook page during confinement, the collection of souvenir photos was initiated in March 2020, through the social network concerned.

Maintained until 2022, this “harvest” was particularly abundant: more than 250 photographs transmitted, dated from 1920 for the oldest, to 2022 for the most recent. But what to do with this treasure after sharing one or two photos every week on the Alignments page? The families who took part in the game all quickly adhered to the principle of an exhibition at the Maison des Mégalithes de Carnac.

Enriched by focuses written by several contributors, Messrs. Dominique Sellier, Olivier Agogué, François de l'R, Jarne Da Silva, the exhibition "an affair of families" allows us to address several subjects as diverse as the history of photography , traditional Breton costume, the fragility of archaeological sites etc. So many testimonies to the unsuspected richness of “photo-souvenirs”, as a source of information on the very identity of megalithic monuments and their history. As such, additional work is underway to go further in the study and promotion of this inexhaustible popular iconography. A “family story” to follow!
