Philippe Bréson's work focuses on the materiality of the image. He explores various "pre-digital" photographic processes: cyanotype, salted paper, wet collodion, gum dichromate, etc.
His photography, which is mainly analogue or hybrid, is also underpinned by an ecosophical concern, with the development of a process that has less impact on the environment.
For this exhibition, he is bringing together three sets of prints.
"Cicatrices" is a series of landscapes shaped by the First World War, to which Philippe Bréson adds layers of subjectivity by scratching, patinating and cutting the negatives.
For "Maen Glaz", he delves into the bygone history of the Breton slate quarries. Using a pigment process, to which he adds slate powder collected at the locations where the photographs were taken, he superimposes archive images and photographs of landscapes and rocks.
"La forêt est un état d'âme" captures the essence of the forest, a place of wonder and fear, using silver prints sometimes taken from cameras made or modified by the artist to produce unique renderings.
