Helping endangered plants - Exhibition

Founded in 1975, the National Botanic Conservatory in Brest is the world's first garden dedicated to safeguarding endangered plants. For 50 years, it has been carrying out conservation work to preserve endangered plant species and help them return to their natural habitat.

Through 15 illustrated panels, the exhibition invites the public to discover the issues surrounding the disappearance of plants and the actions taken to protect them. Botanists estimate that almost 20% of the 420,000 known plant species on Earth are now threatened with extinction.

The plants presented in the exhibition are also grown in the Conservatoire's tropical greenhouses, where almost 2,000 rare or threatened species are kept, making up one of the largest collections in the world. Set up in the botanical garden, this exhibition gives visitors a better understanding of the essential role played by botanical gardens in safeguarding plant biodiversity.
