Welcome to Servon-sur-Vilaine, a historical town (11th century). Many monuments attest Servon-sur-Vilaine origins, as Notre-Dame-de-la-Délivrande chapel, rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, at the place of the former sanctuary (1667). The Saint-Mathurin oratory (1923), and located at Goronière street, was very often frenquented during the processional days the last century. We went there to ask recovery from a fever, or a good death ... raining's end !
In the town center, we can't avoid Saint-Martin Church, built at the place of the former church (10th century). The first churched was surrounded by the cemetery until the 1850's, before he was transferred La Bouëxière's road. She was rased around 1870 before the construction of the actual edifice between 1880 and 1885 by Jean-Marie Huchet, according to Aristide Folie plans.
The former presbytery is located at the south-east of the church, Saint-Martin street. In Februarary 1804, the City Council decided to sell materials of a little barn, in the presbytery's court in the purchase to repair this last one, in bad condition. The presbytery was rebuilt around 1840.
For the town's history, we can speak about Château du Gué, built in the 15th century with successive evolutions until the 20th century : the chapel was built in the court (octogonal plan) (18th century) and linked, by a gallery, at the main building of the château.
In his past, Servon-sur-Vilaine was covered by trees and bushes, between the forest of la Bouëxière and the marshy areas of la Vilaine. The town was famous for his agricultural activity and his excellent cider. Today, Servon-sur-Vilaine is well-developed and offers a rich and various heritage.
Don't forget to observe the new City Hall (modern, restored). A wide forecourt sposes the area linked the Town Hall and the Church, in a pedestrian area, highlighting the town center.
