Welcome to Noyal-sur-Vilaine, located at 8 kilometers at the north of Châteaugiron.
On arriving in the town center, you observe the Saint Pierre's Church, built in 1892 according to Arthur Regnault's plan, architech who built many churches in Ille-et-Vilaine. This church, built at the place of the former church, is caracterized by a ribbed vault, a bell-tower-porch and a neo-Gothic style canted chevet.
Lower, you can access to the cultural center l'Intervalle, built from two former buildings next to the church. The prioral manor (16th century) hosts the media library while music school's studios are installed in the former farm of the Motte. Those two constructions are linked by a wide glass space, luminous and spacious, with an auditorium which can welcome more than 150 people. The hall constitues a welcome, information and exhibition place, attached to the building, the Saint-Alexis chapel (1943). Closeby, you can see the wash-house, recognizable thanks to its inscription graved. The chapel, the maison Saint-Alexis and the wash-house are illustrated by Isidore Odorico's frescoes (1893-1945). He is a mosaicist of the region.
The town has also an architectural treasure of the 15th century, near Châteaugiron : the Château of Bois-Orcan, built by Julien Thierry, money maker of Anne de Bretagne. Totally restored in a lovely green space, he found his original authenticity.
Noyal-sur-Vilaine has known an important activity linked to hemp cultivation with manufacture of the "core" sailcloth that made the reputation of the town. Concerned by reconnect with the past, the local and intercommunal elected officials have projected to create an Espace éco-chanvre, kind of display, center of resources of documentation and formation around this plant.
